Softonic.com, a secure software distributor, has reported a surge in interest in niche productivity apps, with download numbers increasing from January to September 2022 compared to the same period in 2022.

Users are increasingly seeking unique apps over traditional ones, such as Google Docs, Google Drive, and Evernote, which are experiencing declines in downloads. Platforms like Softonic are helping to present new options, with apps like Pocket, Hive, Pomodone, Notion, and Slack experiencing positive growth. Pocket, a content discovery app, saw a 98% increase in downloads, while Hive and Pomodone saw 79% and 48% increases respectively. Other apps like Evernote, Google Docs, and Google Drive also experienced declines.
