A study by LendingTree reveals that Tesla drivers in the U.S. have the highest accident rate among 30 automotive brands over the past year. The study, which analyzed quotes from people looking to insure their vehicles, found that Tesla drivers had the worst accident rate, followed by Ram and Subaru drivers.

Tesla EVs come with Autopilot, an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) designed to assist drivers with steering, acceleration, and braking. CEO Elon Musk claimed that Autopilot reduced crashes by 10 times compared to average car drivers. However, Tesla’s systems still require drivers to remain attentive and ready to respond, despite claims that they are hands-free.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found safety defects in Tesla’s Autosteer feature, potentially increasing collision risk. Tesla agreed to a voluntary software recall and promises safety improvements.
