Three of the world’s biggest pornography sites have been told their users in the European Union may have to use age verification technology.

Pornhub, Xvideos, and Stripchat face stricter EU regulations due to their 45 million monthly users in EU countries. These firms must take extra steps to protect children, potentially introducing age-checking tech to prevent minors from accessing pornographic content, according to the European Commission spokesperson.

The European Digital Identity wallet will provide identity proof and electronic document sharing for EU citizens, residents, and businesses. Pornhub, Xvideos, and Stripchat have been designated Very Large Online Platforms under the EU’s Digital Services Act, requiring increased legal obligations and content moderation.

The EU Commission will enforce stricter rules for websites, fines up to 6% of global turnover if not met. The second batch of VLOPs, including 19 tech giants, were informed of the new rules in April. X, formerly Twitter, is suspected of violating the DSA’s obligation.
