X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, suffered major outages in the early morning that left users unable to access the site.

Global users of X were unable to view their timelines for over an hour, with a placeholder message appearing instead. Despite this, users were able to make posts during the outage, with the reasons for the outages remaining unclear.

X, a microblogging platform, experienced increased outages under Elon Musk’s ownership, with 80% of its staff slashed after his takeover in April 2022. Critics blame Musk’s job cuts for the outages, with Fidelity reducing the platform’s valuation by two-thirds.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reduced X’s workforce from 8,000 to 2,000 due to pressure from advertisers boycotting the company over his social media activities. Musk faced accusations of antisemitism and slammed advertisers for distancing themselves from X, urging them to “go f*** yourself.”
