Incheon International Airport Corporation has been chosen as the preferred bidder to provide management consulting for Vietnam’s Long Thanh International Airport project, valued at 18.3 trillion won ($13 billion).
This selection positions Incheon International Airport as the leading contender in the Airports Corporation of Vietnam’s global search for an advisory partner. Competing against France’s Groupe ADP and Germany’s Fraport AG, the Korean airport operator, alongside Vietnam’s PMI Consulting Service Corporation, earned the highest overall marks for technology and price, according to Incheon International Airport. PMI Consulting is responsible for the basic design of the new airport’s passenger terminal.
Incheon International Airport Corporation anticipates earning 11 billion won from the management consulting deal.
Beyond consulting, the operator will assist with the airport’s operational readiness and airport transfer (ORAT) as it prepares to begin operations post-construction. This phase will involve establishing the airport’s internal operating standards, which will significantly influence the passenger experience once the facility opens.
Long Thanh International Airport is being constructed 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Ho Chi Minh City. The new gateway airport is designed to alleviate traffic from the city’s existing Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
The construction of Long Thanh International Airport will unfold in three stages. The first stage, featuring one airstrip and one passenger terminal, is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026. By 2050, the airport will have four airstrips and four passenger terminals.
The management consulting partnership is set to run for two years.
“This consulting project, if secured, is expected to establish a new hub in the Southeast Asian region,” said Incheon International Airport Corporation President Lee Hak-jae in a news release. “We aim to expand our global presence, with the goal of managing at least 10 overseas airports by 2040.”
